SAT last minute study tips

If you have a High School student, you know all about the SAT Collegeboard test. The next test is this Saturday, November 8, 2014.

This week should not be used as a "Cram Session," but rather a review. You should allow for at least one month studying prior to any SAT test date.

So what should your student be working on this week? Here is a list of last minute study tips:

First, you should create an "Essay Idea Sheet." This will include examples for the Essay. Examples need to be specific and relevant to the topic within the Essay Prompt. Examples should include various areas of your personal life, literature, religion, school, books, movies, and politics, to name a few. If your student has this "Essay Idea Sheet" filled out with a few examples from each of these areas, he/she should have no problem coming up with specific examples to support his/her view point on the Essay topic. Remember to stick to one side of the argument and prove your point by using 2 to 3 specific examples to support your thesis statement.

Review the types of questions covered in the Math sections and make sure your calculator has fresh batteries. Be prepared to turn the word problems into Math. Have your student make sure they remember to underline or circle the actual question being answered. Many students make the mistake of solving for "y" when the question asked them to solve for "x." Don't make these simple mistakes. Remind yourself to write down every step you make; do not just "do it in your head" as that's where minor mistakes can cost you.
